A. Upside is a residential developer in the Greater Toronto area. We are a solution oriented company specializing in urban in-fill projects, major renovations and additions. From ground up new construction to straight forward renovations, we provide effective and efficient design and construction process.
With a strong background in construction management we provide oversight in all phases of site development including pre-construction value engineering, as well as, offering green building alternatives where feasible.

Upside feeds of it's passion for contemporary and modern projects with a holistic approach. With a long background of expertise in retrofits and challenging lots Upside is driven by projects that may be considered difficult by other companies. During all projects the Principal of the company provides hands on attention to every detail working closely with clients, and incorporating their ideas with his for the most beneficial outcome for the home owners. Rambod Nasrin assists with projects from start to finish including design, occupancy or resale.
Being a smaller entity gives guarantee of lower overhead costs and greater savings for the client. Practicing a collaborative team approach with Client, Architect, Designer, Engineers, and the City, Upside stays on top of all relations.
How did Upside Inc. get into the construction business? Please provide background history and the experience level of your company?
Rambod Nasrin, the Founder of Upside Inc. is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng), a LEED Accredited Professional and a graduate of University of Toronto Civil & Environmental Engineering.
Previously, during his eight year career in construction with Tridel, Canada's largest Condominium Developer, he held numerous positions including Sustainability manager, R&D manager & LEED consultant during which time he established Tridel’s Green Program and oversaw environmental certifications of 20 Tridel buildings. As part of these roles, Rambod headed up new technology development and product research, LEED certification, construction integration, management training & Green marketing efforts. Further, Rambod spent two years on site construction management of highrise residential buildings. Earlier, Rambod was with the engineering firm, Carson Dunlop, where he conducted over 1500 building & home inspections.
Building homes for the last 8 years, Upside Development was launched to pursue a full vision for architectural design and quality construction. Upside Inc. was established in 2009, with a view to bringing a fresh new perspective. Marrying the vast experience between construction experience, highrise development, sustainability and market vision, Upside hopes to bring to life exceptional projects each time.
What stage does Upside Inc. come onboard with clients?
Upside gets involved at any stage a client requires, we have the in-house expertise to assist with land acquisition and property selection, to design and build phase with re-sale and optimal design in mind. We have a number of clients that come to us with existing properties and architectural plans. However if a client approaches us in the early stages we recommend that we are part of the vision from the start to create flow and consistency in the final product.
What is the clients role in the design and layout process of their home project?
Does Upside only accept contemporary projects?
No. Upside is a boutique home developer that is recognized for taking on projects that usually have a unique feature about them. Things like retrofits, ravine lots, new ideas. The bulk of recent work that has been completed has been contemporary homes. That being said Upside has also built traditional and transitional homes in the city as well.
What does your tagline mean build, rebuild and remodel?
By “Build” we mean a new custom home, to “rebuild” we mean a retrofit or addition/extensions, and by “remodel” we mean renovation i.e. kitchens, bath etc...
What is your process and how do we start?
Our process begins with interested clients filling out a questionnaire in regards to the project to inform us of the timelines and complexity of the job. Next a face to face appointment will be made to determine the specifics of the project and to see the property. If available plans (preferably construction plans) they will be requested to assist with pricing the job. A proposal will then be prepared and customized with details that pertain to the project.
How do you charge for your services?
Every project is unique and will require detailed thorough assessment of all features and characteristics. Typically there are two costing options that are possible depending on the type of project consisting of the fixed cost or management fee structure. To determine the best option all details would have to be considered.
